Who it suits
Ameela Exosomes is microneedling with a serum added. People book it for the same reasons as microneedling:
- Uneven skin texture
- Fine lines
- Skin that looks tired or dull
Who it is not suitable for
- Anyone with a fish or seafood allergy, because the serum contains an ingredient derived from salmon
- Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding
- Anyone under 18
- Anyone with active acne, a cold sore or a skin infection in the area to be treated
- With Vivace: anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device
- If you have taken isotretinoin in the last six months, tend to form keloid scars, take blood-thinning medicine or have any allergies, please tell us at your consultation
We go through your medical history at your consultation and will tell you if another treatment, or no treatment, is the better choice.
What it is and how it is applied
Ameela Exosomes is a serum. According to its maker it contains exosomes derived from grapefruit and watermelon, polynucleotides derived from wild salmon and a peptide.
Exosomes are tiny particles that cells release. The maker says the ones in this serum come from plants, not from human cells.
We apply the serum to the skin during microneedling. The fine needles make tiny channels in the surface of the skin and the serum is applied over them. It is not injected.
You can have it with Dermapen, which is microneedling alone, or with Vivace, which also delivers radiofrequency heat through the needles.
Research into exosomes in skincare is at an early stage, so we cannot promise a particular result. Results vary from person to person.
Your appointment
Consultation
We look at your skin, go through your medical history and allergies, and explain the likely result, the risks and the alternatives.
Treatment
Numbing cream is applied first. The device is passed over the skin in sections and the serum is applied as we go. Allow about an hour.
Afterwards
Your skin will look red and feel warm, like mild sunburn. We explain how to look after it and when to book your next session.
Who treats you
Ameela Exosomes treatments are carried out by trained and insured practitioners, after a consultation.
Side effects and risks
Common and usually short-lived: redness, warmth, tightness, mild swelling and pinpoint marks.
Less common: bruising, breakouts, infection, an allergic reaction to the serum, changes in skin colour and scarring. Your practitioner explains these before you agree to treatment. Contact the clinic if anything worries you afterwards.
Looking after your skin
- Wait two to three days before going back to your usual skincare and make-up.
- Avoid sun exposure and use SPF 30 or higher while your skin heals.
- Avoid saunas, swimming and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
Questions
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are tiny particles that cells release. The maker of this serum says its exosomes come from grapefruit and watermelon, not from human cells.
Is it injected?
No. We apply the serum to the skin during microneedling. We do not inject it.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is applied beforehand to keep you comfortable. Afterwards your skin can feel sensitive, like mild sunburn.
How many sessions will I need?
The maker suggests three or four sessions, two to three weeks apart, then one or two sessions every six to nine months. We agree a plan at your consultation.
What results can I expect?
Research into exosomes in skincare is at an early stage, so we cannot promise a particular result. Any change is gradual and varies from person to person.
Can I have it if I am allergic to fish?
No. The serum contains polynucleotides derived from salmon, so it is not suitable.
How is it different from polynucleotide injections?
Polynucleotides are injected into the skin. Ameela Exosomes is applied to the skin during microneedling and is not injected.
Should I choose Dermapen or Vivace?
Dermapen is microneedling alone. Vivace also delivers radiofrequency heat through the needles, and costs more. We help you choose at your consultation.
