Who it suits
People usually book it for:
- Dull or rough skin texture
- Fine facial hair, often called peach fuzz
- Make-up that sits unevenly on the skin
Who it is not suitable for
- Active acne or inflamed spots, which the blade can irritate
- Anyone with sunburn, cold sores or a skin infection on the face
- Anyone under 18
- If you take blood-thinning medicine, or have taken isotretinoin in the last six months, please tell us first
We go through your medical history at your consultation and will tell you if another treatment, or no treatment, is the better choice.
How it works
The practitioner holds the skin taut and passes a sterile, single-use blade lightly across it at an angle. This removes the top layer of dead skin cells together with the fine hair.
The hair grows back as it was before. Removing it does not make it thicker or darker.
Your appointment
Skin check
We look at your skin and ask about your skincare and any medicines, to make sure the treatment is suitable.
Treatment
The skin is cleansed and dried, then treated with the blade in short, light strokes.
Afterwards
A soothing product and sunscreen are applied, and you can go back to your day.
Who treats you
Dermaplaning is carried out by our trained practitioners, who check your skin first.
Side effects and risks
Common and short-lived: mild redness and sensitivity.
Less common: small nicks, irritation, or a breakout in the days after treatment.
Looking after your skin
- Use SPF 30 or higher every day; freshly exfoliated skin burns more easily.
- Leave retinol and exfoliating acids out of your routine for a few days.
- Avoid heavy make-up for the rest of the day if you can.
Questions
Does dermaplaning hurt?
No. It feels like light scraping across the skin.
Will the hair grow back thicker?
No. Fine facial hair grows back with the same thickness and colour as before.
How long do the results last?
About three weeks, until the surface cells and fine hair return.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes. It is often booked before a facial or LED treatment. We will advise what suits your skin.
