Who it suits

People usually book it for:

  • A firm, deep massage
  • Muscles that feel tight or tired
  • Relaxation

Who it is not suitable for

  • Anyone who is pregnant
  • Anyone under 18
  • Anyone with a blood clot, or a history of deep vein thrombosis
  • Varicose veins, broken skin, a rash or an infection in the area to be treated
  • Recent surgery or injury in the area to be treated
  • For radiofrequency and cavitation: anyone with a pacemaker, other implanted electronic device or metal implants in the area
  • For the sauna bag: anyone with a fever or infection, or a pacemaker or other implanted device. If you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure or diabetes, or take medicine for your heart or blood pressure, you may still be able to have it if your condition is well controlled and your doctor agrees. Please check with your doctor before booking. Tell us too if you feel uncomfortable in enclosed spaces

  • It is not a weight-loss treatment

We go through your medical history at your consultation and will tell you if another treatment, or no treatment, is the better choice.

What each session includes

Wood therapy: Maria works over the skin with shaped wooden tools, such as rollers, cups and paddles, using massage oil. The pressure is firm, and she adjusts it to what feels comfortable.

Manual massage: a firm massage by hand, alternating with the wooden tools.

Light, rhythmic massage: a slow, gentle massage by hand that moves over the body in a set order.

Vacuum therapy: a handheld device with a small cup that gently draws up the skin as it moves.

Radiofrequency and cavitation: a handheld device that warms the skin with radiofrequency energy and passes low-frequency ultrasound into the area.

G5 vibration: a massage machine with a vibrating head that is moved over the body.

Sauna bag: a relaxing heat treatment. You lie comfortably wrapped in a heated sauna bag, and the gentle warmth makes you sweat. Many people find it a good way to unwind, and the warmth can feel soothing on tired muscles.

Facial wood therapy: smaller wooden tools on the face and neck, together with a facial massage by hand.

Your appointment

Before

We ask about your health to make sure the treatment is suitable. Avoid a heavy meal for a couple of hours beforehand if your stomach is being treated. Drink water beforehand, and avoid alcohol on the day of a sauna bag session.

Treatment

You lie on the treatment couch, covered with towels except for the area being treated, while Maria works over each area.

Afterwards

The skin can look pink for a few hours. You can go straight back to your day.

Who treats you

Wood therapy and massage at Skin Life are carried out by Maria, a beauty therapist who focuses on wood therapy and body massage.

Side effects and risks

Common and short-lived: redness, warmth and tenderness in the treated areas.

Less common: bruising, particularly if you bruise easily or take blood-thinning medicine. Tell Maria straight away if the pressure feels too strong.

With radiofrequency, the skin feels warm. Tell your practitioner straight away if the treatment feels uncomfortably hot.

In the sauna bag you become hot and sweaty. Tell us straight away if you feel faint, dizzy or unwell.

Afterwards

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid hot baths, saunas and sunbeds for the rest of the day if your skin is red or tender.

Questions

Does it hurt?

It feels firm, and some areas can feel tender. The pressure is adjusted to what you find comfortable.

Which session should I choose?

Choose the one that sounds right for you, or message Maria on WhatsApp and she will help you decide.

Is it a weight-loss treatment?

No. It is a massage. It does not replace diet and exercise, and any change in how the skin looks is temporary.

How often can I have it?

As often as you like, once any tenderness from the last session has settled.
