How polynucleotides work
Polynucleotides are purified fragments of DNA, usually derived from salmon or trout. They are injected into the skin in small amounts.
They do not add volume like a filler. The treatment is intended to support the skin’s own repair processes, so any change is gradual.

We look at your skin, go through your medical history and explain the likely result, the risks and the alternatives. You can take time to decide.
Treatment
Numbing cream can be applied. Small amounts are injected at several points across the area.
Afterwards
Small bumps at the injection points usually settle within a day or two. We book your next session.

Injectable treatments at Skin Life are carried out only by appropriately trained and insured practitioners, after a face-to-face consultation.
Side effects and risks
Common and usually short-lived: small bumps where the product was injected, redness, swelling and bruising.
Less common: infection or an allergic reaction. Your practitioner explains these before you agree to treatment. Contact the clinic if anything worries you afterwards.
Looking after your skin
- Avoid make-up for 12 hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours.
- Avoid sun exposure until any redness has settled.
Questions
Do polynucleotides hurt?
Most people feel a brief sting with each injection. Numbing cream can be applied beforehand.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually a course of sessions a few weeks apart. We agree a plan at your consultation.
Are polynucleotides the same as a filler?
No. They do not add volume or change the shape of a feature.
Can I have them if I am allergic to fish?
No. The product is derived from fish, so it is not suitable.
Can I have polynucleotides without injections?
Yes, as Ameela Exosomes: a serum containing polynucleotides that is applied to the skin during microneedling. It is not injected.
