Who it suits
Profhilo is usually chosen by adults who notice their skin looking drier, thinner or less firm than it used to. It can be used on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
- Skin that feels dry or looks dull
- Crepey skin on the face, neck or hands
- Early loss of firmness
Who it is not suitable for
- Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding
- Anyone under 18
- Anyone with a skin infection or inflammation in the area to be treated
- If you have a bleeding disorder, or a condition or medicine that affects your immune system, please speak to your doctor first
We go through your medical history at your consultation and will tell you if another treatment, or no treatment, is the better choice.
What it is
Profhilo is made from hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the skin. It is injected at a small number of set points on the face, neck, décolletage or hands, and is designed to spread through the surrounding skin afterwards.
It is used differently from a dermal filler, which is placed to add shape or volume to one spot. Profhilo Structura is a separate treatment from the same maker, aimed at the cheeks and mid-face. Which is suitable for you is decided at your consultation.
Your appointment
Consultation
We look at your skin, go through your medical history and explain the likely result, the risks and the alternatives. You can take time to decide.
Treatment
The skin is cleaned and numbing cream can be applied. The injections themselves take around 30 minutes.
Afterwards
You can go home straight away. We explain how to look after your skin and book your second session for about four weeks later.
Who treats you
Injectable treatments at Skin Life are carried out only by appropriately trained and insured practitioners, after a face-to-face consultation.
Side effects and risks
Common and usually short-lived: small raised bumps where the product was injected, redness, swelling, tenderness, itching and bruising.
Less common: infection, an allergic reaction, or lumps that take longer to settle. Your practitioner explains these before you agree to treatment. Contact the clinic if anything worries you afterwards.
Before and after your treatment
- Avoid alcohol in the 24 hours before treatment.
- Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory medicines in the 24 hours before treatment, unless they are prescribed for you. If they are, speak to your doctor first.
- Avoid make-up, swimming and strenuous exercise for 24 hours afterwards.
- Avoid saunas and steam rooms for a few days.
Questions
Does Profhilo hurt?
Most people feel a brief sting with each injection. Numbing cream can be applied beforehand, and the treated points can feel tender for a day or so.
How many sessions will I need?
The standard course is two sessions about four weeks apart. A further session is often recommended after around six months.
When will I see a difference?
Changes develop gradually in the weeks after the second session. Results vary from person to person and are not permanent.
How is Profhilo different from Profhilo Structura?
They are two separate treatments. Profhilo is aimed at hydration and firmness of the skin and can be used on the face, neck, décolletage and hands. Profhilo Structura is aimed at the cheeks and mid-face.
Can I have Profhilo with other treatments?
Often, yes. It can be used on its own or planned alongside other treatments. We advise on timing at your consultation.
How is Profhilo different from a dermal filler?
A filler is placed to add shape or volume in a specific spot. Profhilo is not used to change the shape of a feature. It is intended to improve hydration and firmness across the treated area.
