Hyperhidrosis in Marylebone, London

A face-to-face consultation about excessive sweating and the options for managing it. It costs £35, which comes off the price of any treatment you go on to have. You decide afterwards whether to go ahead.

What hyperhidrosis is

Hyperhidrosis is the medical name for sweating more than your body needs to keep cool. It can affect one area, such as the underarms, hands, feet or face, or the whole body.

It often has no obvious cause. It can also be linked to another condition or be a side effect of a medicine, which is one reason the consultation starts with your health.

Things to try, and when to see your GP

Simple changes help some people:

  • Wearing loose clothes, and avoiding tight clothes and man-made fabrics such as nylon
  • Wearing socks that absorb moisture and changing them at least once a day
  • Cutting down on things that can make sweating worse, such as alcohol and spicy food
  • Asking a pharmacist about stronger antiperspirants

See your GP first if you sweat at night, if the sweating affects your whole body, or if it began after you started a new medicine. Sweating can be a sign of another condition, and your GP can check for that.

Why a consultation comes first

One treatment used for excessive sweating is a prescription-only medicine. By law it cannot be promoted to the public, so this page does not describe what it does.

It can only be prescribed after a face-to-face consultation with a qualified prescriber, who decides whether it is appropriate for you. That is why the consultation always comes first.

There are other ways to manage excessive sweating that do not need a prescription. We go through those as well, so you can compare.
