Who it suits
Sculptra is usually chosen by adults who have noticed a gradual loss of firmness or volume in the face and want a change that develops slowly.
- Loss of volume in the cheeks or temples
- Skin that has lost firmness
- A gradual result rather than an immediate one
Who it is not suitable for
- Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding
- Anyone under 18
- Anyone with a skin infection or inflammation in the area to be treated
- Anyone who tends to form keloid or raised scars
- If you have an autoimmune condition, or take medicines that affect your immune system or blood clotting, please tell us at your consultation
We go through your medical history at your consultation and will tell you if another treatment, or no treatment, is the better choice.
How Sculptra works
Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a material that the body breaks down over time. It is not a filler that adds volume straight away.
According to the manufacturer, it prompts the skin to produce its own collagen over the following months. That is why the result builds gradually and a course is needed.

Who treats you
Injectable treatments at Skin Life are carried out only by appropriately trained and insured practitioners, after a face-to-face consultation.
Side effects and risks
Common and usually short-lived: swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising at the injection points.
Less common: small lumps under the skin, which can appear weeks or months later, infection, or an allergic reaction. Your practitioner explains these before you agree to treatment. Contact the clinic if anything worries you afterwards.
Looking after your skin
- Massage the treated area as your practitioner shows you.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours.
- Avoid sun exposure until any redness and swelling have settled.
Questions
Does Sculptra hurt?
Numbing is used to keep you comfortable. The area can feel tender for a few days.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually two or three, several weeks apart. We agree a plan at your consultation.
When will I see a difference?
Not straight away. The change develops over several months and varies from person to person.
How is it different from a dermal filler?
A filler adds volume as soon as it is placed. Sculptra is designed to work gradually, over months.
