Who it suits
The GentleMax Pro has two laser wavelengths, so it can be used on a wide range of skin tones. Laser works by targeting the pigment in the hair, so dark hair responds best.

We go through your medical history at your consultation and will tell you if another treatment, or no treatment, is the better choice.
How it works
Laser light passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, where it turns to heat and disables the follicle. A cooling spray protects the surface of the skin with each pulse.
Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects follicles that are in their growth phase. That is why a course of sessions is needed.
Your appointment
Patch test
At least 72 hours before your first session we treat a small test area and check how your skin responds. The patch test and consultation cost £20.
Treatment
Shave the area the day before. The laser is passed over the skin with a cooling spray; small areas take only a few minutes.
Between sessions
Shave only. Do not wax, pluck or bleach, and keep the area out of the sun.

Who treats you
Laser treatments at Skin Life are carried out by trained laser practitioners, after a consultation and patch test.
Side effects and risks
Common and short-lived: redness, warmth and slight swelling around the follicles, lasting from a few minutes to a few hours.
Less common: blistering, crusting or a change in skin colour. These are more likely on tanned skin, which is why we patch test and ask you to avoid the sun.
Looking after your skin
- Avoid sun exposure for two weeks before and after each session, and use SPF 30 or higher.
- Do not wax, pluck or bleach for four to six weeks before treatment or between sessions. Shaving is fine.
- Avoid hot baths, saunas and strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Questions
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most people describe a quick snapping sensation. A cooling spray is released with each pulse to make it more comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
About six for most body areas, but it varies with your hair colour and type, the area and your skin tone.
Is the result permanent?
Laser gives long-term hair reduction, not guaranteed permanent removal. Some people need an occasional top-up session.
Can I have it with a tan?
No. Tanned skin, including fake tan, raises the risk of burns and colour changes. Wait until the tan has faded.
Does it work on all skin tones?
The GentleMax Pro can be used on a wide range of skin tones. We check that it is suitable for you at your patch test.
